Empowering Faith Exploration

About Manny Koks

Manny Looking off into the distance. He is Bald, has a beard, and wears a blue checked shirt. a wheelchair headrest is behind his head, and there are blurred out trees in the Background.

I am a PhD student, theologian, a theology teacher, and an occasional speaker at my Church. As a disabled Christian who grew up in a tradition on the fringes of what most people think of Christianity, I have had more reason to question why I believe what I do.

This journey of reconsidering what I believe has taken me through the borderlands from a very structured faith, to one that is now more nuanced and open to different views. Along this journey, I was most likely to reconsider what I believed whenever different perspectives were argued in a kind, but confident way that took me a little further down the path of enquiry.

I will blog about my Christian faith in the hope that I can start winsome conversations about what I believe as a follower of Jesus.

I want to write gently provocative theology that achieves two things. On the one hand, to be gentle: it is a blog where a wide range of readers can feel safe and comfortable. On the other hand, I want Wide Spectrums to be a provocative place where those readers are invited to consider what they think about their theology in new, more expansive, and welcoming ways.

I would love it if Wide Spectrums became a blog where people from all backgrounds and traditions could find something to help with their journey. Inevitably, because people are different, readers will sometimes disagree with me. My job is done; however, if they find something that leads them deeper into Jesus and his Word.

Core Values

Guiding principles that shape Wide Spectrums’ mission and vision

Unashamedly Biblical

The Bible is the revelation of God to us; most significantly, it is the revelation of Jesus. Through scripture, the Spirit continues to lead people in their situations as he inspires people to understand God’s word where they are.
I try to let scripture be the most crucial source of the theology expressed on this site, while allowing space for different perspectives and interpretations.

Traditionally Trinitarian

Trinitarian faith is the greatest gift that Church tradition gave us, because it uses the Bible to show us that God himself loves us so much that he chose to become fully human for us so that we can be healed of all our brokenness and live whole lives in a relationship with him.

Gospel Centred

The good news of Jesus is that he came to restore us from all our brokenness, including forgiving us and healing our insatiable inclination to live in ways that make us distant from God, hurt ourselves, and wound others. He came so we can be whole and live in a harmonious relationship with God, ourselves, each other, and the world.

Resolutely Inclusive

Jesus is open to everyone, no matter how diverse, whole, or broken others might consider them to be. Therefore, I strive to create a space where all Christians feel free to wrestle with faith in their own way.
This also means making the site accessible to others with disabilities.
